National Tequila Day | An Exercise in Business Marketing

National Tequila Day is here

tequilaYes, ladies and gentleman, it is National Tequila Day. How fortunate that National Tequila Day falls on a Friday, eh? Perhaps it is fortunate. Perhaps it is strategy. I wonder if creating a National Savings Account payday loans in San Diego Day would be an effective strategy.

National Tequila Day is, of course, a holiday fabricated by a company that sells tequila. Shocking, right? Well it seems Sammy Hagar’s tequila manufacturing company Cabo Wabo invented National Tequila Day. However, I can’t find anything that says how long National Tequila Day has been around, so it’s possible that Cabo Wabo just decided to deem some Friday in late July National Tequila Day.

Effective marketing?

I don’t know if National Tequila Day will specifically help Cabo Wabo any more than it helps all tequila companies. Perhaps some people who do their research and are really into traditional observances of nationally syndicated holidays will go for the Cabo Wabo.

Probably most people who celebrate National Tequila Day simply look at it as an excuse to drink tequila, just in case they needed one. I predict it will spur lots of college parties, cause a few people here and there to replace their usual liquor of choice with tequila, and overall bring in a bit of extra cash for tequila makers.

Cross promotion

Of course, other products are trying to jump on the National Tequila Day bandwagon. Besides the makers of Tabasco Spicy Tequila using the holiday to promote their brand, plenty of other companies are publishing recipes that feature tequila as well as their product.

Not all of the recipes I came across were for drinks. Here’s an appetizer recipe from PhillyBurbs.com:

Gambas a la Mexicana (Serves 2)

8 ea Raw Shrimp (size 26-30 peeled and de-viended)
2 oz. Vegetable Oil
1 pinch Gaujillo Chile Stripes (red Chile flakes are a good supplement)
2 ea Minced Cloves of Garlic
¼ c Diced Plum Tomatoes
1 oz. Butter
1 pinch Chiffonade Cilantro
1 pinch Chopped Chives
1 oz. Herradura Tequila Blanco
Salt to Taste

Instructions

This recipe works best if you can get what are called casuellas. These range in size but they’re small earthen wear bowls that can be placed right onto a heat source and then used to serve your food.  If not you can cook them in a small pot, or saute pan and transfer them to a plate or bowl.

First pour in the oil, then add in the chili strips and garlic.

Place it on the stove on high heat and wait till it boils.

Meanwhile season your shrimp with a little salt, go a little heavier than you normally would because the oil will absorb a lot of the salt.

Once the oil comes to a boil add in your shrimp and cook for about 45 seconds then flip over and cook the other side for another ten seconds.

Add in a tomatoes and butter.

Finish with tequila and top with the chopped cilantro and chives.

Serve immediately.

Spicy summer sizzlers

If you do want celebrate National Tequila Day with Sammy Hagar’s personal tequila brand, Patrick Beach has some good recipes, though I am sure they’ll work with any brand of tequila. Check them out:
